...ya my parents were very creative! *noo, they weren't smokin' funnies!*LoL* Born in Maracaibo, the state of Zulia, in Venezuela [yes, South America].

I have always been awed by the human form...we are incredible, spiritual, beings! There is beauty in every experience...our joy, pain, sorrow, our faith and hope...all beautiful in their own way. Isn't that why we create art!? I want you to think and meditate...perhaps to get a glimpse of who, and what, is "me".
I've inherited the energy and creativity of two souls...my mother, a gifted poet with the will to survive unbelievable tribulations *high five, mami*...my father, a singer/musician/dancer with incredibly contagious energy *woot!woot!*. Both very charismatic in their own right and blessed with inspired, God given, talents. I am on the journey of discovery...to owning what I've been given! I did not choose this path, it chose me!

I'm currently attending the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California to nurture this craving in me. I don't believe that I have had "real" formal training as an artist, until now. Of course, in my family, we consider LIFE as real formal training, so let's not eeeven go there!  I began experimenting with self portraits almost four years ago as a way to cope and document the incredible things happening in my life...mainly the possibility of having to have a heart transplant at the age of forty-one. It has been a life changing experience...so very personal and intimate, and I want you to understand and feel it in my work.

I have grown so much in every area of my life, and find that I still have sooo much to see and learn! Antique-ing, photography, painting, singing and dancing alone in moments of daydreaming are just a few of my life's true pleasures! I'm at a time in my life where I am confident and comfortable in my own skin...living passionately! It was Howard Hughes that once said,
"Passion will make you crazy, but is there any other way to live?" And how true it is! I am my art...and I am a work in progress. The process will be long and tedious, but ever so rewarding! ~ Selva Solimar

"What the soul is to the body, so is the artist to his people..." ~ Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957 Chilean Poet, 1945 Nobel Prize Winner in Literature)
