A personal note: I grew up spending time in Charleston during vacation. One of my fondest memories is of when I was 16. I was on my way to the beach with my cousin, we had the windows down, the radio way up (I remember listening to REM's I am Superman), both of us had cigarettes in hand (bad, I know, I've quit) and we rode over that bridge singing along and puffing away. It's really a fond memory. It was grand every time I rode over it. It would always play in my head the rumors that it was going to fall, so I always celebrated a small victory me when I actually made it across. For those of you who are not familiar with Charleston and the Cooper River Bridge, a new one has been built to replace the two older bridges and they are now in the process of tearing them down. So, goodbye Cooper River Bridge, I'm going to miss you!
