This commissioned portrait presented the dilema of capturing the beauty of the young girls with the presence of a predominance of black objects. The portrait is hanging above the grand piano in the painting. Keeping the integrity of the actual color of the black piano and the girls' black dresses without overwhelming the youthful subjects was a challenge. Blue highlights and soft edges were added to play down harshness from the black.
