Nataly Basarab

Artist's Profile

After completing my degree in Fine Arts, for a few years devoted myself to interior design. Since 1991 my main focus is back on painting. Mainly I'm working with acrylics and watercolors, sometimes I'm making polymer clay art dolls. Although human form is often present in my works, it's used to express or evoke a mood or emotion. Colour plays there the main role, sometimes bold, strong, sometimes subtle. It's an expressive, gesture painting. I am primarily a figurative painter, but I also find beauty in all subjects. My favorite subjects are the deceptively ordinary scenes which we overlook as we rush here and there in our busy lives. I often find moments that stop me in my tracks. My goal as a painter is to see beyond mere appearances. There is a spiritual nature in everything. Words cannot express it. That is why I paint.
