This is a rendering done in pen and ink of what I imagine a young family would have done in getting ready for the Holidays. They are obviously going on a little trip to visit friends and family and show their offspring with pride. The master of the house has built a little sleigh and crude though it is, it will do the job. His young wife holds their first child and we see their country cabin in the background. The wood turnings on the porch tell us of the architectural style of the day. Their work horse is hitched and wears a temporary blanket--patch included, depicting their condition in life.
I chose to use a font that was the type of penmanship of the day.
