Marvin Lee Billings

Artist's Profile

I believe in making one of a kind art design jewelry. I work from myth folklore and historic events to make jewelry with a that spark connections to our collective subconscious dreams as a people. All of the art pieces have a multitude of symbolism in their construction.

Born July 23, 1964, Marvin Lee Billings to Judy and John Billings. I am the fourth of five children three girls two boys. All of my family enjoys some form of art from painting, jewelry, wood working, to art quilting. I was told my first watercolor was done when I was three. My first memories are of working with clay. My art teacher in high school Peggy Pendergrass, a great impressionist and beautiful lady, was the most Influential person to me and greatly improved my drawing and painting skills from 1979 to 1983. After joining the army I was assigned to Fort Ord California. It was hear that I learned how to fabricate and cast jewelry from Rex and lapidary craft from my second mother figure Reba. I later worked part time teaching silver smith and jewelry fabrication.

I now have my own jewelry and lapidary workshop where I design and bring my ideas to life. I still use inside my home to paint and draw. I find I have more time to do this as the last of the boys have gone off to college. And thank my wife who understands that I can focus on my work and not notice the house burning down around me, and lets me stay lost in my own little world. Sheryl also reads most of my writing as being moderately dyslexic myself I usually cannot find mistakes I have made.
