This is one of my Small Format painting in my "Study Of the Master" series. Delecroix said that he had seen this young girl in a graveyard crying and he must have been so moved that he had to immortalize her pain on canvas. He did a lot of paintings in his home on the wall during a time when hee was being harrassed by the Catholic Church. So some of his paintings have strange enlongated faces with someone distored features which was probably due to painting them on the not quite flat surface of a wall. Hope you enjoy. Marty Helgeson
