Artist's Profile

As an artist I have always been drawn to the human face. There is something mysterious and intriguing about an expression particularly in the eyes. When I paint it is my desire to capture something from within the mind of the subject through a look, a position of the head or an angle of the body. To me painting is a process in which I can actually let go and let my spirit guide me to the destination. I set out with a goal and allow myself to create freely. As a result there is a subject, a painting that comes alive and tells its own story. I feel as though I am just a tool in bringing that to light. When I paint for children whether it be on furniture or canvas I come from a different place, the other side of my personality. I still feel a great sense of freedom but allow the innocence and great imagination and creativity of the child within come through. I love bright contrasting colors and silly character's engaging in humorous activities. I feel satisfied when an idea brings a smile to my face knowing that it will bring joy to others. The world of the child is a world full of possibility and excitement where everything is new and seems to be seen for the first time. I love that world and I hope I can bring something to it through my work.
