Johnye Cruse

Artist's Profile

I was gifted with an inquisitive mind and varied interests. Art gave me an outlet to express myself. I have such a large field of experience to draw on I don't seem to have time to record it all

Sometimes I feel like the Grandma Cruse of the art world (without Grandma Moses' PR) I have been painting for 45 years, professionally for 30. I am returning after a 4 year absence caused by a serious car accident. I had to wait until I was seventy to have one and it was a humdinger.

I was a participating artist in the C M Russell Show and the Western Heritage Art Show for 15 years and numerous other shows over the years. At the Western and Wildlife Show in Richland, WA one of my fellow exhibiters was Gary Burghoff (Radar of Mash fame) He is very nice and an excellent painter in his own right.

I consider myself a western artist, just not confined to cowboy art. Western is a geographical term. I live in Washington state, but have lived in Texas and South Dakota, so I paint a little bit of everything. Bringing you into my nostalgic scenes and making you feel a part of them is my goal. My birds and wildlife are frozen moments in time captured for your enjoyment. My trains, florals etc. are something that captured my fancy at the time and I felt a need to pass on.

I have an idiosyncrasy about life in paintings. I do not like absence of life in paintings. Somewhere in the picture there will be a live object, even if it is only a little V bird.

My husband of 51 years (now deceased) gave me a kick start in painting and both of them are the love of my life.
