Art: Rivers of the Mind by Artist Joeallen Gibson

“Rivers of the Mind” was inspired by a braided river system that runs down the face of a glacier in an area know as Peyote Bluff, near Banff, Canada. It is truly a beautiful spot. The islands in side braided rivers change quickly as does the coarse of the river. As I sat and watched the river one day it became a metaphor representing how quickly my life had passed and the mistakes that I thought I had made earlier in life didn’t really exist as mistakes any longer. Just like the river my life had continued to change coarse removing the old islands building new ones, some longer lived than others. That was the feeling I was trying to capture in this painting. It is created as most all of my works using natural material, sand, fibers, native dyes wherever possible. Being a geologist I find inspiration when working with and about the earth.
