I've been using orange as a theme and sometimes subject for the last few years. It's a strong range of color that evokes a strong reaction while I work. I like all flavors of orange but am particularly attracted to a variation of butterscotch, often with cool accents. I don't judge the color alone, context is everything to me.
"We Merry in the Fall" was done in alternating layers of brush/palette knife/brush etc. I like to work wet in wet and love to work quickly so acrylics suit me well. I build up layers and layers of paint, in this case, beginning with a vertical burnishing technique for the underpainting. The shapes are melons, trees, flowers etc...whatever is round and imperfect.
