This was the 3rd in a series of macro flowers I entered in an art exhibit that ran through the month of May 2009 in NYC. It was called ART on Record Volume II. Artists could use any medium, but all art must be done on a 12" vinyl record! My maiden name was Rose. Originally the name was Rosa, but when my paternal Grandfather emmigrated to the USA from Italy he changed it. This piece was one of those that just oozed out of me after several emotionally charged days. I decided to give the record a white base layer on which to apply several layers for texture. I painted the white in quick, somewhat random strokes around the outside, but the middle ones radiated from the center. In the finished product you can see the underlying, course brush strokes and it gives so much texture to the petals. I added some reds and purples to the areas with higher value to really create a feeling of depth. Oil on 12" vinyl record $300
