Art: Skin Walker SOLD by Artist Christine Wasankari
This is a representation of a mythology that has fascinated me for the last 15 years...One of many in the Navajo Mythology...Skin Walker, the Navajo version of witch and or shape shifter. If anyone has read the books by Tony Hillerman they know how much trouble and fear this belief can stir up in the Navajo Nation, a people who are terrified of "Chindi" or earth bound spirit. A Skin Walker at work is usually to blame for most of the deaths that occur and many subsequent ceremonies of other types are needed to bring back the balance and sense of beauty all Navajo cherish.
