A mare and her new foal are enjoying the sweet smell of the hay in the stable this fine spring day. This was created for the “Ripped Off” 2009 EBSQ show! It is based on Kiya's “Horse and Baby.” After the initial drawing, light watercolor glazes were built up. Then I used colored pencils to define the highlights and shadows further, and a bit of finer detail. Since my goal is to illustrate children's books, I made this painting in a children's book illustration style, with space for text and a square format.
