Artist's Profile

I grew up drawing and painting, on our family farm in south east Queensland, Australia. My mother, and my paternal grandmother, both painted. I am grateful to my mother for encouraging me with gifts of art supplies throughout my childhood and youth.

I have exhibited about a dozen times in Biloela, central Queensland, Australia:  one solo, two were two person exhibitions, & the others group exhibitions.

I have been inspired for years by the artworks on EBSQ, especially in the EBSQ Folk Art Gallery. My favourite EBSQ artists include: Debi Hubbs, Pamela Brooke, Angel Turner Dyke, DeAnna G. Conn, Matilde Caceres-Zelinger, Teresa Nolen Pratt, Kathy Hatt, and Julie Fillo.

I admire those artists who have achieved photo realism; however I also love art which just makes me happy, paintings which are colourful, with great use of light and shade (the more 3D a painting looks the better), and which make me FEEL something! Sometimes that feeling might be a yearning for the peacefulness, lightheartedness, and beauty of an idyllic happy country (rural) lifestyle; or a memory from the beloved fairytales which Mum read to my sisters and I as children.

I am self-taught, except for two art workshops, several years apart. One was by Sarah Larsen, in acrylics and pastels; the other by Roy Oorloff - both of them Queensland artists.

I can remember my surprise, after just my first or second joint exhibition, when the local librarian at the time suggested I have an art exhibiton of my own, a solo exhibition! I was touched by her faith in my artistic ability.

There is so much to paint, so many things I want to try! However sometimes I don't paint for weeks, due to feelings of inadequacy. What finally makes me pick up a paintbrush might be a looming deadline, eg a joint art exhibition or local art festival. Now that I'm a lifetime paid member of EBSQ, I hope to become involved in EBSQ Shows.
