Electryone

Electryone is a goddess you don’t read about much, she’s not even in my book of classical mythology. She is the daughter of Helios, the Sun God, and Rhode, a daughter of Poseidon. Clues in her name have led scholars to believe she may have been the goddess of sunrise and waking. Either way, the idea of her bringing forth the dawn sparked an idea. Behind-the-scenes I picture her climbing a mountain each day, just before dawn. When she reaches the first wisps of clouds her hands radiate magical light. This energy pulls the sun from its slumber.

This began as a digital painting. I printed it on Somerset Velvet paper and then continued to work in colored pencil. Lastly, it was varnished and mounted.

Painted for Dragon Con 2014. The detail image with colored pencil is a photograph and not the best image. I'm in the process of having this artwork scanned.
