Prospectus:

Dan Edwards sculpted a well-known woman birthing a baby on her knees on a bearskin rug and named it "Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston". The piece ignited all kinds of debate in blogs and chat rooms and this is the subject of this month's EBSQ editorial. EBSQ artists always have lots to say and this is a chance to voice your opinion.

"To Dan with Love" is open to all media. It is not required that your artwork depict the moment of birth. Think of this as continuing a conversation that has been started by Dan Edward's sculpture. How does this dialogue progress for you?

Please feel free to create in the manner that best approaches whatever aspect of the debate it is that interests you. Celebrity culture? Perceptions of women and idealized motherhood? Pro-life/pro-choice politics? The labor of birth as a personal experience? Artists as hoaxers, gadflies, or truth-tellers? Entries must relate in an obvious way to the original work. They need to present a specific statement that is relevant to the theme, not merely a general comment or opinion on an issue.

Entries for this show should be created specifically as a reaction to Dan Edward's piece. We know that not everyone who may wish to participate in this show will be able to due to time constraints. However, the aim of this show is the artist's reaction to this piece and this situation at this moment in time.

A statement is required and must clearly explain your entry. What it means, why you chose to express this point of view and how it relates to "Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston". Your statement should also include details regarding your materials and process. These are important as increases understanding of your work and significantly enhances the experience for the viewer. As texture or other small elements may be pivotal to the piece, detail shots are encouraged. All points of the prospectus should be met. If you have any questions regarding the prospectus and its requirements, please send them to edu@ebsqart.com.
