Prospectus:

Art begets art. Art inspires artists to create. This show is about that inspiration.

"Springboard: Art inspired by Art" is not an "in the style of" show. It is not for creating pieces in the manner of other artists but rather to let those styles inspire you to realize your own creation. To take the styles, art and qualities that speak to you and use them as a platform to leap from. This is not a show for reproductions. It is not for recreating, copying or reinterpreting another's work, but rather for those works to allow you to see and explore further and to do so in your own individual voice.

As an example, take the Venus De Milo. Does she make you want to examine feminine beauty? To comment on the objectification or the politicization of women? Do you wonder what she would be doing if she still had her arms? What about the triumphant depictions of great warriors? Does it intrigue you to contemplate how the great conquerors be depicted in a modern context? What inspires, and the directions in which those inspirations point, are as limitless as our creativity.

We are very aware that this is a concept that can be quite difficult to get a handle on. If you have any questions, please ask. If you are unsure if something is appropriate, do inquire. We will gladly answer any questions you have. We want everyone to have good experience and to enjoy this unique challenge.

A statement must be included with each piece that will inform the viewer about your work. It should state the what's and why's of your motivation to create your entry, what you experienced during that process and your feelings about the completed piece. This will greatly increase the understanding of your work and will significantly enhance the experience for the viewer. This is particularly important given the theme of this show. Also, details regarding materials and process must be included. As texture or other small elements may be pivotal to the piece, detail shots are strongly encouraged. All points of the prospectus need to be met. If you have any questions regarding the prospectus and its requirements, please send them to edu@ebsqart.com.
