Blessed be the ties that bind... and weave and stitch. Cloth, thread, yarns and other material have been used for more than utilitarian purposes almost since man first started working with them. A heavy cloth may have been used in a doorway or window to block the cold air but was soon they were decorated to beautify the space. Often fine needle work was employed and intricate tapestries were created. Sometimes the design was worked into the fabric itself on the weavers loom or shapes were appliqued onto the face of the fabric. These techniques have created splendid decoration, garments and have been employed in the making of furnishings for the home. Some of the most captivating and beautiful examples of this work go beyond pattern and colour. They tell stories.

This show focuses on the tradition of storytelling via fibre arts, whether it be a story quilt, weaving, needlepoint, knitting, etc. The work submitted must tell a story in fibre and have fibre as its main media. The illustrative nature of the piece should be obvious to the viewer.

A statement detailing the materials, process, what you are trying to tell with your piece, and the impetus behind its creation is required. This will increase understanding of your work and significantly enhance the experience for the viewer. As texture or other small details may very well be pivotal to the reason for entry, detail shots are encouraged.

All patterns used must be the artist's original design. No stock patterns will be accepted!
