Prospectus: The iconic warrior has been a part of human civilization since before recorded history. These bands of brothers (and sisters) have always had their own culture - their own symbols, rituals and dress, apart from the societies in which they exist. These elements give a sense of identity, purpose and uniqueness that bind together those who serve and projects an image - both inward and outward - that helps to define the military in its society.
"The Art Of War" is for exploring the historical trappings of warfare. The range is almost limitless. A Spartan helmet, a 18th British officer's coat, Medieval banners, the traditional headdress of a Masai warrior, the kamishimo of the Japanese Samurai. There are the war horses and their regalia, the weapons, the armor, the musicians, the soldiers, the camps, the hospitals and of course, the battles.
This is an historical rather than a political show. Please - no comments on the validity of any military action past or present, or of war and armed conflict in general. Good, bad, right, wrong - warfare is an inextricable part of civilization and its development. It has done everything from advance medicine to influence fashion. The history of its culture is interesting, relevant and worth exploring.
"The Art Of War" is open to all media. An artist's statement is required with every entry. Your statement should include information on your subject and what about it interests you. As what you chose to portray may not be familiar to everyone, the statement should be thorough. It should also detail the materials, process and something about why you chose to represent your subject in the manner or media that you did. This increases understanding of your work and significantly enhances the experience for the viewer and in this case, makes it a lot more fun. As texture or other small elements may be pivotal to the piece, detail shots are encouraged. Eligible entries need to meet all points of the prospectus. - Upload your art or search your artcase for the piece you'd like to enter.
- Select "enter show" from the pull-down menu at the right hand side of this item (the default says "edit") and click the "go" button.
- Find the show you wish to enter and read over the prospectus to make sure your piece meets all of the requirements. If you feel you're good to go, click "enter."
- That's it; you're all done!
