This could have been a different show. It could have been merely a show of architectural photographs, but somehow, that did not seem to have enough heft. It seemed lacking. There needed to be more scope - more context. After all, a city is not just a collection of buildings and streets and lights and signs. The city provides the physical the structure in which a society operates. This show is a chance for photographers to go out into the cities and towns that they know and reveal them to others. To take the structures, be they buildings, street signs, store fronts or junk yards and present them the part they play in the society and the life of the artist. .
"The Urban Street: Photographs From Town" is a media specific show featuring works of photography. No other media is eligible for this show. This show is primarily to showcase the physical, urban landscape and rather than the people that inhabit it. While people can be a part of the photograph, they are not to be the focus of the piece.
A statement detailing the materials, process, and what made you choose your subject is required. It increases understanding of your work and significantly enhances the experience for the viewer. As texture or other small elements may be pivotal to the piece, detail shots are encouraged. All points of the prospectus should be met.
