Ever Changing: MOTHER EARTH

A movable work of art in neutral earth tones paying homage to the every changing feminine elements, the deep secret cavern places of our planet.

After reading the prospectus for the UNDERGROUND show this is the work that I thought of. To me the earth is a provider, sustainer and mother of everything. When I think of going into the depths of the earth I think of it as entering the protection of a mother. From her depths of our planet comes magma, the element that builds ups up and sustains, that allows the constant change and growth. From her caverns comes the essence that warms, that gets angry and explodes bringing changes in the weather and causing rain. To go underground deep into her secret places that is to enter the primardial beginings of time. When I did the original picture that comprises the 4 panels I was at a place in my life where I was accepting the fact that time was erroding, my youth was fading. Like the earth, from deep inside I brought forth passion that built up my being yet at the samehe ravages of time was wearing down the physical exterior. The colors of this moving abstract, and it's folds reminded me of deep places beneath the earth.

At first this peice started out as one panel called "EARTH". Over time I found that the simple picture I had developed lent it's self to a facinating array of formations that, no matter how I arranged them reminded me of the ever changing earth and of my own changing life cycle.

FROM THE ARTIST: This work first started out as a simple project. I wanted to create a work that represented the attributes of the earth. She is ever changing, eroding yet bringing forth life. A never changing cycle. In this work, a collection of 4 panels that can be arranged together in never ending ways, mother earth always appears. She is growing, expanding out, receding, deep yet open. Like the earth herself this work is a puzzle asking to be explored. The arrangement of the panels is left to the owner of the work. They can be displayed in sets of two horizontal, vertical. Or in sets of 4 or more in expanding geometric formations that reach to the ceiling or span the length of a wall. Stack them on top of each other for a ceiling to floor presentation, or flanking a fireplace mantel or doorway. I have yet to find all the combinations that this work can be shown. Done in tones of rust, gold and black the work looks perfect arranged on a white or beige wall, and even more spectacular on a richly autumnal/Tuscan toned background. Some see dark womb like caves, others see it as gathering in or pushing out, yet others see the formation of a pelvis, the human body or a face. However you hang it - or change the presentation regularly - it is a fertile ground for interpretation, it will surely be the center of discussion. When more than one set is hung together it becomes even more interesting. Discover MOTHER EARTH.

In my own home this work is presented against a deep mustard gold textured wall. This is personally one of the peices of my own that I love. Ever Changing: MOTHER EARTH by artist When? is a work that encourages the continuing creativity of the viewer and owner by allowing freedom to find self exploration in how the peice is displayed. The work brings a sense of mystery and contemplation to any area.

Panels of the small version of are approx. 13" x 22" each with black matte beveled boarder or left flat if framing of each panel is desired. Overall dimension if hung edge to edge is around 27" high x 44" wide

Custom laminated box mounted large installation size can be produced in panels up to 4' high.
