This piece was created for the EBSQ show, To Dan With Love. Being my first obviously political piece, it felt a little scary to put it out there.... but here it is (eeek!). In response to Dan Edward's sculpture of a pregnant Britney Spears, I had many feelings come up, and there are many different directions I could've gone, although I chose the more radical one. My stance is probably clear to most... a beautiful pregnant woman exposed, being controlled and manipulated (the puppet strings), and her sense of empowerment and choice has been taken away. It's as if her body isn't her own. I chose to keep one of her eyes open to perhaps accentuate her sense of helplessness at the same time as adding a little bit of awakening hope.

This piece was pyrographed (woodburned) on oak, and then painted with acrylics.
