This piece was created specifically for the EBSQ Plus Steinbeck show.
I did a bit of research for this show and had a difficult time connecting with his midwestern, farming themes...too much of a city girl I guess. But I have always remembered from childhood the "Of Mice and Men" line about the rabbits. I liked that for Lennie it was a comforting story that took him away from the worries of the present moment and gave them both some hope for the future. Unfortunately, this story is too sad! Even the rabbit can't make life better for Lennie. I think of this as the rabbit from the dream that tries to warn Lennie.
This is made with reverse applique and quilting techniques with fabrics including vintage upholstry, fake fur, velvet, and embellished with ribbons, buttons and trim.
