I grew up with the wonderful narrative illustrations of Norman Rockwell and always enjoyed mentally stepping into the images and having them come alive for me. I've also been inspired by the back stage paintings of Degas. They are glimpses of the everyday realities of the dancers, unaware of being observed. This is a piece from my Market Series...paintings done from photos of unsuspecting people working and mingling in Seattle's Pike Place Market. It is my hope that the viewer recognize a mood or an expierence that invites an unfolding of a story for them.
