This is my Rip of "White Rabbit's Wild Weekend" by Diane Casey. I liked the entire idea of her piece and I sort of ripped on that as well as her actual piece. When seeing her piece I envisioned the white Rabbit in some seedy dimly lit back alley sleeping off (or passed out, whichever you prefer) a major bender from the night before. I liked her setting in the original as well so i kept the bricks as they definitely added that seedy element to the painting. I added a few more things from the book (alice in wonderland) to the painting as well. I have seen (and read) a few versions and adaptations of the book and in some of them there are mushrooms to eat and in the lighter more PC versions its been cake instead. I added both. Diane originally created spectacles for the white rabbit but I gave him a monacle instead. ITs also cracked, to further the idea that the white rabbit is essentially a junkie :) I liked her creation however, I'm a horrible seamstress so I just reinterpreted it via acrylic paint. However, I did keep the stitchery to show he was in fact a doll. I was actually considering adding the white rabbits empty wallet (the money was stolen while he was passed out :D) but I thought that might be a bit much. I called this piece "leaving wonderland" and ripped off a well known Nicholas Cage movie called "leaving Las Vegas" in which he plays an alcoholic... I felt it fit the subject matter. Very fun piece to work with and the idea was great in itself anyway so it made it very easy for me to do my own adaptation.
