This item is a self portrait as a fairy cupping a small dragonette who's lighting a little flame in the dark. It's my favorite self portrait that I've done so far and it has a lot of personal meaning to me as well. I've loved creating fantasy artwork since I can remember, and growing up in a small town, my passion for it was constantly ridiculed and discouraged as a waste of time. My love of art itself wasn't, but my fascination with creating things that don't really exist seemed silly and pointless to most of the people I knew-my family as well. Dragons have always been my favorite subject and in this self portrait I wanted to show something of how they lit my imagination and kept a a spark of defiance against the idea that doing what I love has ever been a waste.
