NOTE FROM THE ARTIST: What better theme to interpret in a modern day style than the fall of Atlantis? It is both classical and mythical and has intrigued scholars throughout the ages. I took some columns and artifacts from antiquity, a few possessions from the Gods, and a mermaid to serve as witness to the fall, then I spun the whole scene into lowbrow art! What would Waterhouse think?

ABOUT THE PIECE: Archaeologists believe they have found further evidence of Atlantis in a conch shell diary written by the daughter of Poseidon on the morning that her "Uncle" Zeus destroyed the legendary island.

Excerpt from "Mermaid Memoirs": Uncle has been angry that father's pet island has turned into a bed of mortal hubris and vice. Uncle Zeus has never been a patient God, especially where humans are involved. He eradicated Atlantis this morning with his thunderbolts. It will be raining relics for days. I'll have to take care not to get hit by the Atlantean sea debris.
