Juror's Choice

This piece began with a dream... where Mary Magdalene, after standing at the crucifixion site of Jesus for hours, was carried away at dusk, by two of her friends, to return to her home, distraught with grief and despair.

What began as a portrait of a defeated woman quickly became a portrait of promise... a retelling of an account of bravery and loyalty, and the strength of spiritual conviction.

The crucifixion of Christ is a theme that has seen its way onto many palettes, and been interpreted in the minds of many artists. Although the inspiration for my piece is of classical origins, the language that I speak is contemporary.
