The theme of the Abyss makes me think of cold, dark, tangled places...underwater, in the dark. There is a sense of being trapped, unable to reach the light and unable to breathe. It's like being trapped in one own's sea of emotional pain, striving to reach the surface; but being pulled back by dark, deep secrets.
