Celebrating the Day of the Dead holiday (or "Dia de los Muertos", as it is known in Mexico and in the hispanic population) - it is the festival commemorating the life (and death) of loved ones, with bold coloured altars of photographs, flowers, and gifts for the dead. My painting is called "Dia de los Muertos" and is a very large, incredibly detailed painting. It is one of the most detailed pieces I have created so far, and I am very proud of it! It is a 20"x16" acrylic painting on a sheet of canvas and features a Day of the Dead altar scene. A tiny wide eyed olive-complexioned girl stands in front of a large altar replete with flowers, candy skulls, fruits, crosses, candles, and many other adornments for the holiday. Photos of the deceased (including a little self-portrait, hehe) are hung at the altar. It is a brightly coloured yet haunting scene - just perfect for the Day of the Dead!
