I love to find new uses for thrift store finds and this is one that turned out great... a table as a night light! The original table had a stained top and the drop leaf veneers were peeling. I cut a hole in the table top to accommodate a thick piece of scratched up tempered glass that I already had scrounged from somewhere, cut a slightly larger hole in a thin piece of veneer (same thickness of the glass) which was cut to fit the existing table top, glued/nailed pieces together and painted dark green, minus the drop leaf sides. Then came the fun part of cutting scrap stained glass to create the design of fish swimming in water with lily pads and blooms. After gluing the pieces in place, I grouted and sealed the surface. Then I mounted a light stick inside the working drawer so that it could be cut on at night to create a lovely piece of art and serve as a nightlight as well. Now it's a fun and functional table in any light.
