This is Renna and her batty companion Miemriri. They might seem unlikely sompanions but think on this. If a bat sleeps in the day who will guard his perch, when the faerie goes into her nightly reverie who will watch over her tiny being? Unlikely as they may seem this pair is perfectly matched! I chose to use a large fruit bat for this piece. They might look scary to alot of people and there are so many myths that make them seem very fearsome creatures. What those stories fail to tell you is that alot of bats tend to be fruit and insect eaters. I think it's a little harder to be afraid of a bat when you know it's basically a vegitarian. We have bats all around our area and have never had a single bad encounter with one. (we are going to be building bat houses here soon as alot of the places they used to nest have been cut down or built over in our area. There is so much detail in this piece. From the individual hairs on the bat to the gossamer wings of the fae. The painted has been varnished to a high gloss finish. It is an original acrylic painting on Masonite/gessoed art board.
