Bats. The only mammal capable of true flight. Most bats eat insects, some eat fruit and a few are carnivorous. They are nocturnal. They hang upside down to sleep. They use echo location as well as sight (they aren't really blind at all and some see very well indeed) to navigate and find food. They control insects and they pollinate plants. Bats are marvels of evolution and while they are becoming more and more appreciated, living down the bad rap from story and legend hasn't always been easy. Of course, the stories and legends are loads of fun. There is nothing better at a campfire than to tell the scary stories that built the bat's bad reputation but this show is for the real deal.

"Bats" is open to all media. The artist’s statement is required for your work to be eligible. This statement should include information on the materials and process you used to create your entry, the species of bat in your entry, something about that particular particular type of bat and why you chose to create or depict your bat in the manner that you did. This information increases understanding of your work and significantly enhances the experience for the viewer. If texture or other small elements are pivotal to the piece, detail shots are encouraged. Eligible entries need to meet all points of the prospectus.
