Edward Hopper often used horizontal lines to construct the space within the picture and to create distance between the viewer and the subject. You should feel a distinct separation between you, the viewer, and this subject. As you view this subject, there is a distinct separation between you, the viewer, and the subject. I used the harsh lines of the porch railing and the lines in the ceiling to create the space. I applied the paints in thin layers to complete my capture of the essense of Hopper's style.
