Media:  mixed - aluminum soda cans, silverplate chain, solder
Dimensions:  8.5 length
Date of Work:  Jan 2008

The image of this beautiful Native American young woman, taken over 100 years ago, inspired me to create big and bold earrings. Perhaps she found the large shells herself or traded some other treasure for them. She certainly looks like she knows how pretty she looks! I created my own version from commonly found objects of today - the soda can. Two large squares are soldered (lead free silver solder) together and hang on a loop of silverplate chain. The chain is aproximately 5 inches long and loops OVER the ear. The soda can portion is another 3.5 inches long, so these dangle much as the shells in the original version do. They are very comfortable and light. A wonderful and fun way to show you care about Mother Earth!
