Done for the November, 2007 portrait swap this is Jennifer on gessoed paper mounted on canvas. She is drawn on rubbed in sanguine conte into the gesso and silverpoint and gold point drawn of her face. Her hair also was drawn with a copper penny. In time, this will tarnish to the green that copper gets. So, in essence, the piece isn't finished until the tarnishing happens which will be in a year or more depending on atmospheric conditions. Jennifer works on wood making pictures by burning images. She has mentioned to me she likes to go camping and look into the fire, so I wanted to capture that bit about her and so I put in flames around a pyramid. Jen's interests are varied from the multi-cultural to a love of anture. There is something very basic about her and profound also, hence the pyramid and a woman. Pyra means fire in Greek and mid means middle. Literally a pyramid would mean "fire in the middle" and so I have the pyramid here as a symbol of Jen. This one started out as a silverpoint drawing with a pyramid and a lady. I didn't know what to do with it for two years. Then tonight I thought of it and saw a connection with Jen and made this piece. The image shown here is incomplete as my scanner couldn't get all of it in. Also the metallics are reflective in a scaner, so any haziness of the drawn parts is because of that. Enjoy.
