Media:  polymer, wire, fabric, papier mache
Dimensions:  15" in height
Date of Work:  2007

No molds or presses of any kind are used in my sculpture and doll art. I’m a self-taught multi-media artist and this is one of my doll creations. I learned a lot about pirates in doing the research for this piece and it was a fun adventure. This gentleman o' fortune didn't quite make it to the fiddlers green. Straight from Davey Jone's locker, this pirate spirit has risen from his watery grave. His blackened skull like face and boney hands are sculpted from polymer. His figural eyeballs are painted red and accented with black diamond Swarovski crystals so they seem to look right through you. His peg leg is made of papier mache and distressed to look like wood. His body is a wire armature wrapped with fabric and then dressed in handmade garments. His boot is black leather over a papier mache foot. His hair is black Tibetan lamb. In one hand he holds a removeable map to Tortuga off the coast of Hispanolia which I've distressed to look aged. In the other, a hunk of gold (painted acrylic piece), its very possession is what sent him to his grave. None the less, he's held on to it all these centuries and isn't about to let go now. His hat is made of leather with a black felt lining so it stays put on this head. Both the hat and his cape are removeable. Since his body is padded with fabric over double twisted wire, he's poseable as you can see in the photos. His handcrafted garments are lightly brushed with iridescent pigments for a bit of an uneartly glow. He measures an impressive 15" tall when vertical and will sit nicely for you on a shelf or mantle. I've signed and dated this creation on the back of his pegleg. He's found an excellent home among the living.
