Skulls are a staple of Day of the Dead art.
This painting is a representation of one of our departed looking back toward us from the after-life as we honor their life during a Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos celebration.
I paint with an intuitive or spontaneous style. I approach art with no preconceived notions as to what might appear. My painting style is very interactive and involves scrubbing, scratching and often many layers of under- and over-painting to achieve an depth and texture. My paintings, when viewed up close, are detailed and the textures are interesting in and of themselves.
This painting was a spontaneous expression relating the the upcoming Halloween and DOTD celebrations.
