I grew up with Dr. Seuss as a child and read many of his books to my three children. My favorite was "The Cat In The Hat." As a child, I always wondered where this cat came from. In the story, he just suddenly knocks on the door. So I chose to paint the cat in the hat arriving from the sky with his magic umbrella! I used acrylic paints to create this piece. I used layers of color for the background (red, gold and yellow), sponging the paint on and letting the colors dry for a few minutes in between each color. This creates texture and a marbling affect. I created a circle path, which has been my style in many of my paintings. I do this to give the painting color and to create meaning. My curly trees are also a part of my style. I use them to express emotion-in this case, they are bending in anticipation of the cat arriving!
