This piece was inspired by the moss-covered oaks found throughout Louisiana. The model for this painting is an oak that is growing on the grounds of the historic Melrose near Natchitoches, Louisiana, where folk artist Clementine Hunter once lived as a field hand, cook, and eventually, artist.
The spanish moss is most evident; however, if you view the details below, you can see the green and orange growths on the trees.
This painting is acrylic on stretched canvas. I began by using the acrylic as a watercolor, gradually building to thicker mixtures.
