Freestyle artist-made necklace made from computer parts, glass beads, shells and other found objects. This is actually a recycleable recycled necklace! Can be unhooked into 3 bracelets and numerous keyrings. Can you figure it out? It's interactive! Pause, escape and backspace - all the keys you need for a game of memory.
I was reading a bead magazine that was devoted to using found objects in jewelry. The magazine had examples of using puzzle pieces and hardware washers, etc. Typewriter key jewelry has been around a while and it started me thinking how computer keyboard keys are even more interesting. I actually went out to my own curb, where we had dumped 7 computers the previous day! I took all the keyboards, got a screwdriver and started to explore. Beneath the keys, each board was different. The older ones have hard circuit boards. Some of the newer ones have this plastic and rubber that I used in this necklace.
I found it a bit daunting to create a necklace with so many different materials. So, I took advice I had read someplace - design in sections. I broke the concept of the necklace into 3 sections, plus the pendant. The 3 sections are also the size of a bracelet (about 7 inches), so with the keyrings, it's possible for the user to disassemble if wanted, wear a black, a green and a keyring bracelet, then put them back as a necklace.
Thanks to Treehugger for this great contest. My greatest satisfaction in creating jewelry is when I repurpose items. So this contest feels like it's made for me. It's wonderful to see others repurposing too! Let's take care of Mother Earth!
