View of necklace with chain

Media:  Bone Wood Glass Brass
Dimensions:  3 1/4" x 3 1/4"
Date of Work:  12/2006

In the past, I have collected many, many pieces of vintage jewelry and beads. Even though some of the pieces I collected were imperfect or broken, it just seemed wrong to discard them. So I began to salvage the good bits and design new pieces using them. I marketed and sold these items on eBay as 'Green Pieces', referring to the fact that they are made using recycled parts. Although I am not actively designing and selling these pieces anymore, I decided to make one for the EBSQ December Jewelry Show.

The central piece is a group of four kittens carved in bone. The kittens are playing with spools of yarn that I fashioned using a variety of beautiful glass beads together with wooden rondels. They dangle freely providing a lot of movement. The pendant is quite large, 3 1/4" across. The vertical measurement is also 3 1/4" to the bottom of the longest dangle.

The brass chain that I used for the necklace is from unused vintage stock. It has a great old look to it, and a lovely, soft patina. I have left the chain very long and it can be adjusted to a specific length at a later date. It is currently 24 inches, so it can be shortened as desired.

I'd like to add that I am in awe of the many lovely pieces that are entered in this show and humbled by the skill level demonstrated by the artists. In comparison to those real masters of their craft, this little doo-dad is just a trinket that I hope gives you a smile!
