This is a rip off of Sandra Urie’s Dragonflies painting. I love Sandra’s style and morbid approach to her art. If you read my bio., I’m attracted to “weird” and morbid things. It’s the good and the bad that the world has to offer. Ying and Yang. I emailed Sandra the first time I came across her work and told her that she has great talents. She ripped off my “Royal Family” piece. Make sure you check it out! It turned out so well that I might have to get it off of her to hang next to the original. ? I was attracted to the dragonflies by the big bold bright colors and the way she used the black line to capture the movement and energy of flight. I also like how she used all natural materials in creating the piece. (Bamboo, rice paper, etc.) Using my style, I introduced gold flake and bronze to carry out the natural materials theme. I titled the piece, “When the dragonfly spirits roam” because of all the meaning behind the dragonfly. The dragonfly is an important insect in Zuni legend, where they are shamanistic creatures with supernatural powers. In Japan, dragonflies symbolize victory in battle. Dragonflies are believed to bring luck, harmony, and serendipity. They are also symbols of immortality and regeneration. In India the dragonfly is a symbol of the magic of potential. This exercise was a great experience for the both of us. We had a ton of fun and it shows in our work. I will be happy to rip someone off next year! LOL!
