Jackpot Jackie (3-D art doll)

This is my rip off of Amanda Hone's ACEO called "Winning the Lottery".

What made me choose this particular piece is the whimsical, and happy nature of it. Amanda's fun personality shines right through and I couldn't resist!

I decided to recreate her 2-D painting as a 3-D art doll and I call her "Jackpot Jackie". She measures approx. 24"x5.5". The doll body was an unfinished muslin, and I painted it to replicate Amanda's character, and I painted a small wool hat in stripes just like in her painting, and I also sewed on a wig of blond hair which is also seen in Amanda's piece. I, however, also included a REAL New York Lottery ticket that you see in her hand. (Unfortunately, it's not a real winning ticket, LOL!)

Anyway, as you can see this is one happy lady! Well, heck, you would be too if you just won mega-millions, wouldn't ya?!?!

You see, Miss Jackie had never been very lucky in love (or in her life for that matter); but as you can well imagine her luck is about to change!

Here's her (hardluck) story:

First, her fiance (also strangely named Jack) jilted her at the alter, and then she got fired from her (admittedly crummy) waitress job, as she was responsible for one too many catastrophe's with the food at the diner, so much so, that her nickname was "Catastrophe Waitress"; and customers snickered and actually stood up and walked out when they saw her coming to their table...

Finally her car which had been on it's last legs anyway, broke down on the way home from the good will store where she bought her pink & purple striped hat for a buck. She thought that hat was lucky the first time she laid eyes on it, and maybe she was right...

Anyway, as she ran into the 7-11 store to call AAA for a toe truck to come, she decided she would buy a lottery ticket and see if she might get lucky and win a few bucks just to make next months' rent.

Well, needless to say, she won the big one! That's right, Jackie won approximately $34 million dollars!

Yep, that's right Jackie is a MILLIONAIRE now! She no longer needs that stupid waitress job, and can buy herself several new cars, (jaguars, porshes) now.

As you might imagine this all came as quite a shock to Jackie and her facial expression shows it all... She started jumping for joy in an ecstatic and euphoric state (as would anyone in her position), but apparently the shock and commotion of winning the lottery was all too much for her to take, and she fainted face-first down on the pavement.

You see her in the final photo here face down on the pavement still clutching that lottery ticket for dear life!

This doll is a mixed media piece with a couple of strategically placed "props" (i.e. the wool hat, her blonde hair piece and actual New York lottery ticket) and the support is a cloth doll that I painted with thinned acrylic paint so it won't "crack" or peel away.

I would like to thank Amanda Hone for inspiring me to create this art doll from her wonderful "Winning the Lottery" ACEO painting.
