This Week's Theme:   Go Fly A Kite

Kites have been around for thousands of years. Kites have had and continue to have practical uses. They have found applications in everything from the military to meteorology. They are often found in cultural and religious celebrations. And kites can of course be found on beaches, in fields or anywhere on a breezy day that is open to the sky.

Learn more about the history and types of kites, how they are used and how to make your own kite.

Media:  pyrography and ink on wood
Dimensions:  5" x 10.75"
Date of Work:  2009

From my new series of lost girls, this piece is pyrographed on recycled alderwood, and painted with vibrant india inks,it is sealed with a high gloss varnish. This is one of my very favorite artworks to date, I just love her forlorn expression! The inks are vivid but translucent, so the natural beauty of the wood grain shows through. This is really a beautiful piece, and comes wired and ready for hanging anywhere you want a bit of whimsy
