This Week's Theme:   Dolls

Dolls - they aren't just children's playthings. We use them in religious rituals, for decoration, as totems, to tell stories and to personify aspects of our psyche and the natural world. They can be realistic or abstractly representational but whatever form they take, we continue to create them and enjoy them.

Media:  Assemblage
Dimensions:  15.5" x 6.5" x 6"
Date of Work:  July 2007

Here is an assemblage piece that has taken me weeks to make. She is definitely the only one of her kind, there are parts on her I'll never find again. She is 15 1/2" tall from feet to tip of hat; about 6 1/2" wide (side to side); and about 6" from front to back at the widest point. Se is solidly made, with lots of glue, screws, nails and whatever it is I need to make this piece of artwork last through the decades. Her dress is made from two old lamps; her head, legs and her kids are old doll parts, arms from decorative furniture pieces (I think). I used pattern tissue paper to cover the dress; I don't know what it is on her head, and a hatpin for her balloon. And there is a surprise under her dress, no, no, nothing naughty! Visit my Etsy store for more information on purchasing her. And oh yes, I retain the copyright and can use the image whenever I want too! And I can make more just like her if I want to too. But you can enjoy the real thing, if you buy her of course.
