This Week's Theme:   Quilts II

quilt(kwilt)
n.

  • A coverlet or blanket made of two layers of fabric with a layer of cotton, wool, feathers, or down in between, all stitched firmly together, usually in a decorative crisscross design.
  • A thick protective cover similar to or suggestive of a quilt.

Quilts, whether tradional, modern, functional or decorative, are a part of the history and heritage of many families in almost every culture. When you consider this and the creativity, artistry, skill and care with which quilts are created, the above definition hardly seems adequate.

It's finally done! This top layer began as a plain, white piece of fabric. I dyed it and used an original silkscreen to create the pigmented portraits. After cutting, piecing, and quilting, here it is!
