| | Art of the Day: 02/24/2007 | | This Week's Theme: Quilts II | | | quilt(kwilt) n. - A coverlet or blanket made of two layers of fabric with a layer of cotton, wool, feathers, or down in between, all stitched firmly together, usually in a decorative crisscross design.
- A thick protective cover similar to or suggestive of a quilt.
Quilts, whether tradional, modern, functional or decorative, are a part of the history and heritage of many families in almost every culture. When you consider this and the creativity, artistry, skill and care with which quilts are created, the above definition hardly seems adequate. | |
| "Friendship" | Media: Fabric/Beads Dimensions: appx. 18" x 24" Date of Work: 12/2004
"Plant a seed of friendship, reap a bouquet of happiness."
I made this little quilt for a friend of mine, when I had absolutely no money to spend for a gift. I used different vintage floral fabrics (from my always growing collection), & a couple of old tablecloths I had to create the backing & vase of flowers...then stitched beads on, to liven it up & 'write' the quote about friendship.
