Art of the Day: 02/09/2007
This Week's Theme:   Quilts

quilt(kwilt)
n.
1. A coverlet or blanket made of two layers of fabric with a layer of cotton, wool, feathers, or down in between, all stitched firmly together, usually in a decorative crisscross design.
2. A thick protective cover similar to or suggestive of a quilt.

Quilts, whether tradional, modern, functional or decorative, are a part of the history and heritage of many families in almost every culture. When you consider this and the creativity, artistry, skill and care with which quilts are created, the above definition hardly seems adequate.

Media:  Fabrics, sequins, inkjet printing
Dimensions:  19 " x 11"
Date of Work:  March 2006

This piece was inspired by a picture I took of an architecutural detail (St. Vitus Cathedral) when I travelled to Prague. I've been doing some basic photo manipulation in Photoshop and love the inkjet ready fabrics that you can put through your printer. The remaining composition is just random crazy quilting and my signature felt circles and spangles.
